Important: the pointed-arrow-for-activation / T-bar-for-inhibition pairing is a FORMAL STANDARD only when a figure declares SBGN (or a similar spec). In an ordinary molecular-biology figure it is a widely shared CONVENTION, not a standard — which is exactly why SBGN was created, to make the notation unambiguous without a long legend.
