We conducted a literature mining and database construction effort. PubMed and Web of Science (WoS) were searched up to August 19, 2024, using the search term 'protein corona.' The search yielded 3,974 records from PubMed. After excluding non-research articles and publications prior to 2007, 3,220 records were retained. The WoS search yielded 11,017 records. Filtering for articles/letters in English and removing duplicates and publications prior to 2007 resulted in 8,216 records. Merging the records from both databases and removing duplicates resulted in a total of 8,794 unique publications. Full-text PDFs were obtained for 7,659 records. To focus on nanoparticle-protein corona (NP-PC) research, relevance screening was performed. Non-primary research articles were excluded, as were publications pertaining to coronaviruses and records where 'protein corona' was only mentioned incidentally. This process resulted in a final set of 2,473 core publications for analysis. Text mining was then performed on these full texts, and relevant terms were extracted.
